A chalet style home is defined as a type of dwelling that originated in the Swiss Alps. It is typically a wooden building often with a steep, sloping roof and wide, overhanging eaves. Chalet style homes are traditionally built for use as a vacation home, but these days they are becoming increasingly popular as primary residences too. The most traditional form of the chalet style home is the Swiss-style chalet which is usually made of timber and often has a balcony, usually located on the second floor. The interior of a chalet style home is usually quite simple and rustic, with exposed wooden beams and cozy fireplaces, often with stone walls and wooden floors.
